Please tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello World! My name is Andrea, and I’m a multimedia artist based in Istanbul and London. I’m also known as 'andrealitmus' across my web2 and web3 profiles. What mediums do you use to express yourself?
I don’t restrict myself to mediums as I’m more concerned with ideas and journeys leading upto their execution. In my 15 years creating, I’ve shot, directed and produced films; designed and collaborated on painted large murals, built upcycled statues and recently been mesmerized by creating series of images.I work by creating a series of actions that result in an abstract artwork, and therefore introduce myself as an analog-generative artist. This process closely resembles getting lost, or playing with no purpose.
Are you a Solo or Collaborative artist?
Having started my artistic journey as a filmmaker, I’ve always worked with groups of creatives. This hasn’t fully reflected in my body of work presented as NFTs, but I do have a very exciting collaboration coming up – I’ve been working closely with a generative artist to create very unique collection. Coming soon!!How do you/your perception of art differ from others?
Since 2018, I’ve been creating abstract artworks in digital from the photographs I’ve taken of folded aluminum foils. As far as I understand, this process is rather unique and gets wows everytime I share it in person. Let’s hope it leaves a similar impression for you (the reader)Is there a fav artist or an artwork that inspired you/your style?
Jan Erichsen. What was the last Exhibition you visited?
Contemporary Istanbul Bloom - where I was a curator for one of the gallery’s NFT and digital art section. What does Innovation mean to you?
I believe we’re in the middle of an ongoing change in collective perception, and that’s only happening due to the innovations we now call Web3.Innovation means being misunderstood. It means being alone, and carrying the flag for the cause before anyone else.
Unique handcrafted artworks, created by a generative process involving both human and digital interplay. Through these abstract yet figurative designs, I’m exploring a question with you:
Can a label change how you perceive an artwork; or is it possible to reflect your own meaning upon it anyway?
-- There will only be 169 Foils.
Is AI your Enemy or Friend?
I would rather ask whether I’ll be AI’s friend or enemy in the future… and I’ll be a friend. It’s an acronym that seems to scare many. I try to soften the blow by renaming it Assisted Imagination. See if that helps, and if you still want to be an enemy to it?
Please tell us a bit about a recent piece of the art world that has particularly interested you.
The Goose. I cared deeply about this piece, especially after it’s record breaking sale. I wondered why? I wondered how? More I read, more I cared; more I cared, more I read. The downward spiral lead me to an extensive research of generative art history and it’s role in our contemporary artistic culture.
” Be excellent to each other, and party on!
(This is actual advice, not just another pop-culture insert.) ”
Generative art refers to artwork that is created using a system, process, or algorithm that operates autonomously or with minimal human intervention. It involves the use of computer programs, mathematical equations, or other procedural methods to generate unique and often unpredictable visual outputs.
Using the artistic imagination of Andrelitmus, aluminum foil takes shape as the rules or parameters are set up to govern the generative system. This allows the system to generate variations and compositions based on those rules. This form of art presents new and unique aesthetic experiences, challenging traditional notions of authorship and artistic expression.
