Please tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Oya, and I am a Turkish-based artist. I have been deeply involved in art since my high school years, constantly exploring myself through artistic expression. About 1.5 years ago, I stepped into the world of NFTs, starting with a few illustrations and cat-themed drawings. However, my focus soon shifted to portraits. I began creating a variety of portrait art, blending elements of realism and abstract art without adhering to any specific color theme.Later on, I delved into more figurative works. In these pieces, I experimented with portraying characters in both indoor and outdoor settings, accompanying each artwork with written stories. Alongside creating digital art, I am currently pushing my boundaries by utilizing artificial intelligence, which is considered a different tool in the evolving art world and may hold great potential for the future. Through this exploration, I continue to discover myself as an artist.
What mediums do you use to express yourself?
I use a variety of tools to express myself artistically. I am currently using my digital tablet and artificial intelligence in my art creation process. Additionally, I try to improve my writing skills to complement the stories and poems that accompany my works. Are you a Solo or Collaborative artist?
I may come as a solo artist because I've never done collab art except for a few in the past. But I am always open to offers and I would love to blend my art with artists of different styles. How do you/your perception of art differ from others?
I don't know if my artistic perspective is different from other people, but as I always say, art for me is a form of meditation. It is a way to share my different thoughts with the audience while avoiding negative reviews in the creative process. Art, for me, encompasses the entirety of life because we can choose art and use any medium to express ourselves. The power of art is limitless to me. I create emotional language using colors, textures, and forms. I need to reflect on the ideas and emotional experiences stemming from the depths of my inner world in my works. I invite the audience an invitation to go on a journey with me and immerse themselves in their inner world through my artworks. Is there a fav artist or an artwork that inspired you/your style?
Numerous artists inspire and admire me! While I would love to list all their names individually, if I had to mention one, Alexandra Levasseur stands out as an exemplary contemporary artist. What was the last Exhibition you visited?
Most recently, I visited an exhibition called “Transformation” in Bursa, Turkey. Many unused or out-of-life items came to life again in display artworks. Also, raising awareness and drawing attention to environmental and sustainability issues helped visitors adopt environmentally friendly production and consumption habits and contribute to a sustainable future. What does Innovation mean to you?
I think Innovation involves identifying problems or unmet needs and finding innovative ways to solve them. It also thrives in a culture that encourages diverse perspectives, open-mindedness, and learning from experimentation and failure. Are you familiar with Web3 /NFTs/Crypto?
I am quite familiar with Web3, NFTs, and crypto. As an artist who produces NFT Art and earns crypto, I have experience and knowledge on these topics. Is AI your Enemy or Friend?
Artificial intelligence is a great tool that I use in my art creation. Thanks to AI, I have stepped into a new and inspiring field of creativity. However, I am aware that some people have a negative attitude toward it. I evaluate this situation in my mind as follows; if you would have given traditional artists an iPad or graphics tablet, they would probably think it was a devil's invention and had a hard time accepting it. Today, however, graphic tablets are widely used in the art world. This is an example where technological progress and change are accepted over time. I think there is great potential for the art world to explore and use the opportunities that AI presents, rather than seeing it as a demonic invention, and I believe AI will play an important role in the evolution of art. Please tell us a bit about a recent piece of the art world that has particularly interested you.
A work of art that has particularly impressed me lately is Banksy's "Love Is in the Bin". This was a painting that automatically disintegrated itself right after it was sold at auction in 2018. What interests me about this work is Banksy's approach which goes beyond the ordinary. It is quite impressive that he uses his work as a carrier of a message beyond sales and money value. It criticizes the commercialization of art and how its value is determined while emphasizing the conceptual and intellectual dimensions of art.
” On your art journey, don't be afraid to express yourself and be confident, discover who you are, and find your unique voice. It will be a long journey, but rest assured it will all be worth it at the end of the road. Push your limits to think creatively and don't be afraid to try new things.
Combine different styles, combine traditional and digital media, or explore different topics. Taking risks, and making discoveries always helps you improve yourself. ”
Oya’s art dances on the edge of surreal enchantment, casting a spell of both unease and fascination. Within her strokes, she captures ethereal female figures caught in a delicate balance between distress and haunting beauty, set against landscapes that defy reality's grip. Each stroke reveals a journey that emerges from the depths of dreams. Her canvases become portals, exploring the depths of fear, desire, and love, like the evocative works of Salvador Dali and Alexandra Levasseur, leaving an indelible impression on the observer's psyche.
