Please tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Yağız Kocabıyık, I am 28 years old. After finishing my photography department as an elective in high school, I was entitled to enter Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts Photography Department in 2013, which was one of my biggest dreams. I graduated in 2019 and for many years I prepared exhibitions and projects, especially on experimental documentary photography. Later, I met concept art and took my art to the next level with this new branch. I have been working as an artist both traditionally and digitally for years and I have been doing my best to be an important part of this new order, especially since the beginning of Nfts. I have sold many works and met many people, but this is all just the beginning! The journey of art must continue until the end of one's life, at least that's how I feel. What mediums do you use to express yourself?
In addition to taking photographs, I drew in charcoal and digitally for many years. Then I created collective collages, in Photoshop, sometimes in Procreate, to combine them all. I could never give up on the experimental approach. In summary, the general framework of my work is to combine both drawing and photography. Are you a Solo or Collaborative artist?
I usually work solo but I enjoy doing collaborations with people whose talent and vision I trust. How do you/your perception of art differ from others?
The phenomenon of art is a very broad concept, for me, this understanding is about expressing yourself most accurately and mysteriously possible. I am a person who follows the future and technology very closely and this is the general perception of my art. Especially after artificial intelligence makes its artificial intelligence, I think a lot about its physical and psychological changes in human life. Of course, since the change of the world will be inevitable at this point, it also adorns my art as an atmospheric. If I need to give more examples on the subject, my latest collection "ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ ғᴜᴛᴜʀᴇ" on Fnd is a completely blended summary of this idea from the photos I took. Check out my portfolio for more details. Is there a fav artist or an artwork that inspired you/your style?
Zdzislaw Beksinski is one of the artists I admire very much, this is because I find his work both dark and dramatic and quite powerful. In addition, the movie Blade Runner and the novel " Do Androids Dream of electric sheep" are among my sources of inspiration. Some call him crazy, but Philip K. Dick has a very different mind and vision to me.What was the last Exhibition you visited?
Recently, I visited a local photography exhibition about refugees in Eskişehir. I think real art is more underground than popular ones. What does Innovation mean to you?
Innovation is the process of introducing novel ideas, methods, or products that drive significant advancements and positive change in various fields. Nfts/Web3 and AI are great examples of this today. Are you familiar with Web3 /NFTs/Crypto?
I met crypto in 2015 but I was not interested at all because I was thinking of finishing my studies at university. Then in 2019, I started with small-scale buying and selling, and from the moment Nfts came out, I started to take part in Web3 full-time. The sector I work most on may be creator, but I also focused on Nft trade buy& sell.Is AI your Enemy or Friend?
This is a very deep process that needs to be analyzed. I never think that AI will threaten human life for the next 10-15 years, on the contrary, I see it as a tool that makes our life much easier, just like a pencil. Since people's easy access to things will increase positive competition, I think the real threat process will be after 15+ years of AI becoming more conscious. Neuralink is still under the name of the anti-AI market. Maybe "The Matrix" is closer than we think. We will see all of this in time. Please tell us a bit about a recent piece of the art world that has particularly interested you.
Maybe it will sound a bit egoistic, but I think my last project will see a lot of value 5-10 years from now. People who understand this now and are involved will be very happy about it in the future. The starting point of my collection is the movie "Blade Runner," which is based on Philip K. Dick's novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" In my collection, which explores the empathic relationships between the Old World and the New World, I look at my photos taken in the past through the lens of a dystopian atmosphere that reminds me of a dusty, gloomy desert heat. This collection is a minimalist summary of how all these innovations and the developing new world will affect our lives in 30-50 years.
” Whatever your means, never hesitate to defend your art and express your views. Your words, your writings, and even your face will never be remembered. But art is perhaps your only building block that can exist in the "Matrix". Fear is a very deep regret. Because of all this, I wish new artists to stop procrastinating and take action. ”
Yağız Kocabıyık's artistic focus on Retro-futuristic and Cyberpunk Characters/Environments showcases a unique and captivating vision. Through his photography, he skillfully combines elements of the past and the future, creating a distinct aesthetic that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. The artist's ability to capture the essence of these themes is commendable, as he effectively translates them into visual narratives that transport viewers to alternative worlds.
Furthermore, his exploration of glitched-styled dystopian characters through video work adds another dimension to his artistic repertoire. By delving into this subgenre, he demonstrates a willingness to experiment with different mediums and push creative boundaries. The fusion of glitch aesthetics with dystopian elements creates a visually striking and thought-provoking body of work.
Overall, Yağız Kocabıyık's artistic approach is characterized by a strong thematic coherence and a distinct visual style. His ability to evoke emotions and transport viewers to imaginative realms is praiseworthy, making him an artist worth following for those interested in the Retro-futuristic, Cyberpunk, and glitch art genres.
