"Prizma Expanded: Poetics of Perception"
Prizma Expanded: Poetics of Perception | 11 May - 29 July 2023 | Akbank Sanat
‘Prizma Expanded: Poetics of Perception’ is no ordinary exhibition; it's a celebration of collaboration, art, and the rich history of Turkish cinema. This exceptional showcase unites three generations of gifted filmmakers, highlighting the seamless evolution of cinematic artistry in Turkey.
What sets this exhibition apart is its focus on site-specific and experience-based cinematic works of art. By immersing the audience in unique environments, filmmakers Reha Erdem & Florent Herry, Zeynep Dadak & Çiçek Kahraman, Deniz Tortum & Alican Çamcı, aim to create a profound connection between the viewers and the stories they are about to witness. It's a remarkable endeavor that intertwines the realms of cinema and art, allowing the audience to experience something truly unforgettable.
Initiated by the visionary artist and curator, Lara Kamhi, the impact of social media's didactic influence on our minds and cinematic encounters is thoughtfully acknowledged. Despite the information overload, Prizma seeks a profound state of transcendence, providing a haven for weary minds. The exhibition's aim is to immerse visitors in the enchanting art of storytelling.
“ … yok, yok, yok,
yalan söylediniz.
bütün ağaçlara, hayvanlara, çocuklara.
yalnız kaldık, toprağa çöktük…
… çocuklar unutmaz etlerine kazınır, gözlerine yazılır “ -from Mimirap
"Prizma Expanded: Poetics of Perception" promises to be a transformative and thought-provoking journey. It transcends mere film screenings, offering a multidimensional exploration of human perception. This captivating encounter will linger in the hearts and minds of the audience long after the exhibition's conclusion.
“Reha Erdem and director of photography Florent Herry share an immersive and cyclical Showbox with a new sequence shot as an extension to their movie entitled Big Big World.
Zeynep Dadak and film editor Çiçek Kahraman reinterpret cinema’s engulfing and absorbing nature through their fluid and vortex-like new fiction inspired by Invisible to the Eye (Zeynep Dadak), Vertigo (Alfred Hitchcock), Blue (Derek Jarman), and The Beaches of Agnes (Agnes Varda).
Working with visual materials from Tortum’s feature-length documentary Phases of Matter shot in Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Deniz Tortum and sound designer Alican Camcı share an experiential space confined in its own temporal dimension. As the piece integrates the documentary’s fictional flow into space, it also alienates the viewer while engrossing them.” - excerpt from the curator Lara Kamhi’s text
